Detroit has been in the news so much lately that it’s hard to keep up. Here are five reasons why we’re making headlines:
Detroit’s convention bookings are a clear sign of Detroit’s rebirth.
As seen in a recent Detroit Free Press article, everyone wants a little piece of Detroit. Exiting bankruptcy and shedding its debt, President and CEO of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau Larry Alexander states that Detroit’s convention bookings are projected to increase 140 percent from 2014 to 2021
Cobo Center’s transformation makes it a one-of-a-kind convention venue.
Detroit’s downtown convention center is currently undergoing a $279 million transformation. Cobo Center’s state-of-the-art changes include a 40,000-square-foot Grand Riverview Ballroom with hydraulic lift stage; three-story Cobo Center Atrium overlooking the Detroit River; TV broadcasting studio (still to come); open-air terrace overlooking Canada (still to come) and much more.
Detroit’s renaissance is attracting new residents and businesses.
As Carlie Marie Rupp of neverstoptraveling.com put it: “While the city has always been one of America’s great urban centers, offering travelers plenty of things to see and do, today’s tumult has brought Detroiters together and they’re making the city better than ever. Several well-known businesses have relocated into the downtown area, where residential occupancy now stands at an unbelievable 98%.”
