The first meeting between Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic newcomer Davison and two-time PKC participant Southfield A&T turned out to be a doozy, as regulation wasn't enough to decide the outcome.

Eventually, Davison prevailed and defeated the Warriors in the nightcap of day one of the 2017 Xenith PKC, 56-54, in triple overtime.

Two big plays made by Warriors senior playmaker Matthew Gilbert -- the first a 72-yard touchdown catch and the second a 21-yard TD run -- helped give the Warriors a 20-6 advantage heading into halftime.

Davison made a run in the second half, though, on the heels of senior Tariq Reid's superb running.

Reid helped set up all four scores of the second half for the Cardinals.

On the Cardinals' first offensive possession of the half, he rushed for 17 yards on three carries and hauled in a catch for 11 yards en route to junior quarterback Cannon Hall's 15-yard TD throw to senior Garret Goyette.

The next score was provided by the Warriors and courtesy of A&T senior running back Eric McArn, though.

He had a 21-yard rush, leading into his goal line TD as the third quarter was coming to a close.

Reid followed it up with a TD of his own with 9:33 to play in regulation and then tied up the game at 26 with his next score.

McArn let his presence be known once more in regulation, scoring from 48 yards out to give A&T the lead with 5:51 to play.

Davison did not allow McArn to be the hero, forcing OT through junior quarterback Cannon Hall's 58-yard bomb to fellow junior Max Slezak.

At this point, the game could've been labeled the "McArn-Reid Showdown."

McArn and Reid scored all of their respective teams' touchdowns through the first two OT sessions.

It led to the Warriors and Cardinals each having 48 points going into triple overtime.

Southfield A&T senior QB John Darby scored to kick off the third OT session. However, the Warriors failed to convert their 2-point attempt.

It left the door wide open for the Cardinals, which took advantage of the opportunity.

After Goyette caught his second TD of the night, all the Cardinals needed was a successful PAT. They, instead, opted for the 2-point try.

It paid off for them, as Reid, Davison's Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player recipient, got the job done with the successful 2-point conversion.

Reid finished with 26 carries for 127 yards and four touchdowns, while McArn, A&T's Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player recipient, finished with 143 yards and four TDs.
