Moving on from the Division 1 state championship loss to Detroit Catholic Central, Detroit Cass Tech opened the 2026 season with aspirations of a return trip to Ford Field.

Michigan City, Ind., provided the first test of the season and the Technicians overwhelmed the visitors 62-0.

"We played a pretty good team in Michigan and we did what we expected to do,'' said junior quarterback Donald Tabron, who has already committed to Texas A&M. "The expectation is big for us. We played with poise.  We're go into Sunday, watch film and improve on this. Everybody touched the ball, everybody made plays; offense, defense and special teams.''

Burly running back Julian Taylor wasted no time getting Cass Tech on the board.

He scooted 51-yards down the right sideline on the Technicians first play from scrimmage with 10:44 left in the first quarter for a 7-0. He wasn't finished.

"I've gotten faster,'' said Taylor. "I've always made plays so that's nothing new. We know what the expectation. We have a great stable of running backs.''

Tabron spotted Peyton Robinson for a 52-yard score on his first pass completion to give the winners a 14-0 lead with 7:23 left in the first quarter.                                                              

Tabron completed his second TD pass on a fantastic 20-yard reception by Mylan Griggs as Cass Tech opened up a 21-0 lead.

The beating continued as De'Mari Hendrix scored on an 11-yard run to make it 28-0 with 10:39 left in the half.

Robinson thrilled the crowd again when he scooted 61 yards on a punt return, weaving through the Wolves defense, for a 34-0 lead.

Taylor then ripped the ball out of Jeremy Thompson's hand and ran it in from 24-yards. Griggs caught the two-point conversion pass for a 42-0 lead.

"That's what I do; make plays,'' said Taylor. "We work on that at practice.''

Taylor rumbled in for another score from 33 yards out for a 49-0 with 1:40 still left in the fist half.

It was complete and total domination by Cass Tech.

The running game was averaging a first down per play. Tabron's receivers dropped some easy passes, the defense was stout and the secondary  didn't allow any long passes.

Hendrix tacked on his second TD from 67-yards out to make it 55-0.
