Senior wide receiver Xavier Liepe and quarterback Ben Klos were too much for the Trenton defense as Allen Park opened its season with a 47-27 victory against the Trojans at the Amazon Prep Kickoff Classic at Tom Adams on the campus of Wayne State University.

Klos completed nine of 11 passes for 205 yards while Liepe ran and caught passes on the Trenton secondary.

"We've been practicing all summer so Ben and I are on the same page,'' said Liepe. "This is great momentum going into the rest of the season.

Trailing by seven at halftime, the Trojans took the second half kickoff and marched 79 yards with Parker Saches bulldozing his way from five-yards out with 6 minutes, three seconds left in the third to tie the game at 21-21. A 30-yard run by Niko Beaudrie sparked the drive.

The Jags struck quickly with Klos hitting Brody Metalic with a 49-yard strike. The extra point was block as Trenton trailed 27-21.

Hawkins hit Harrison McMillian with a 44-yard strike, but the Trojans also missed the extra point for a 27-27 tie.

Allen Park took the lead 34-27 on a Klos to Liepe six-yard pass with 8:43 to play.

"We knew the passing game was going to be open,'' said Klos. "We've got a bunch of good guys. They got us last year. We came ready and prepared. I told the defense we needed one stop and we'd get control of this game.''

Klos sealed the deal with 2:44 left on a touchdown pass to Liepe from 19 yards to make it 41-27.

"I just think our kids are resilient,'' said coach Tom Danosky. "That offense was a pain. You can never simulate the speed they (Trenton) play with. It took the defense some time to get used to it.''

Trenton's Ben Strok got stuffed on a fake punt attempt, give the Jags the ball at Trenton's 34.

Allen Park struggled early.

A bad snap pinned Allen Park back to its own seven, and after a 25-yard punt the Trojans had great field position at the Jaguars 32.

Quarterback Anthony Hawkins made Allen Park pay for the mistake, using runs of 19 and five-yards to set up his seven-yard TD run with 8 minutes left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Klos hit Xavier Liepe with a 60-yard pass to give Allen Park great field position at the Trenton 21.

A face mask penalty eventually put the Jags in a third down and 27 hole.

Klos hit Liepe with a 26-yard pass to the Trenton one, and a play later Klos scored from the one with 4:39 to play.

However, a bad snap negated an extra point, keeping the score at 7-6.

Hawkins, keeping the Allen Park defense on his heels with his running, scored in second TD in the first quarter on a two-yard push up the middle to give the Trojans a 14-6 lead with 55 seconds left in the first quarter.

Allen Park responded with 68-yard drive, using a 12-yard run by MIkey Edwards to get the Jags to within two.

Klos hit a wide open Liepe in the back of the end zone to tie the score at 14-14 with 6:59 left in the first half.

Hawkins mishandled a pitch and Allen Park's Ryan Lawyer recovered at his own 32 with four minutes left in the half.

The turnover, and a pass interference penalty on the Trenton secondary proved costly and the Jags took the lead on a six-yard run by Klos with 69 seconds left in the first half for a 21-14 lead.
