Living Legacy Initiative Uplifts Detroit's Youth for a Brighter Future
The Detroit Sports Commission and Visit Detroit, with the support of generous donors from the local civic, corporate and philanthropic community, have committed to developing a Living Legacy Initiative for every major sporting event coming to Detroit, launching with the 2024 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light. Focused on the two pillars of education (emphasis on literacy) and youth play (emphasis on Girls in Sports), this effort will contribute well in excess of $1M in events, programming and direct grant funding across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties.

Led by a committee of community leaders across the educational, youth sports, corporate and non-profit sectors, emphasis has been placed on elevating outstanding organizations already
established in the Detroit region.
Inaugural fund recipients include:
  • Detroit Lions Academy and Dixon Educational Learning Academy, thru a partnership with literacy non-profit Beyond Basics;
  • Project Play, a coalition of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr., Foundation, and the Aspen Institute;
  • Grassroots' organizations, selected by Detroit City Council and the Detroit Sports Commission, located in each of the seven council districts.
Empowering Detroit's Minority-Owned Businesses
The Detroit Sports Commission, Visit Detroit, Michigan Black Business Alliance, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, and other key partners developed an inclusive plan connecting Detroit's small business community with NFL Draft opportunitiesBy fostering professional development, networking and contracting opportunities, this program engaged and empowered businesses owned by minorities, women, veterans, people with disabilities and the LGBTQ+ communityThe impact of this initiative extends beyond 2024 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light, forging lasting connections and opening doors for Detroit businesses in the NFL's ecosystem and beyond.

Community Programs & Events
Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light, Visit Detroit, in conjunction with the Detroit Sports Commission and community partners, brought the fun and excitement of the Draft to communities across the state of Michigan through the "On The Clock Tour". A series of neighborhood events, the "On The Clock Tour" engaged over 10,000 residents across Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties and invited all residents to be a part of the 2024 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light.

During the 2024 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light, community programs will continue at Corner Ballpark, home of the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL), which will serve as the youth hub for the 2024 Draft hosting youth-focused activities, including NFL FLAG skills and drills and football clinics and showcasing the collaborative legacy between PAL and past, present and future NFL players.
