Allen Park Rolls Past Rival Wyandotte, 55-22

| By:

Allen Park got off to a slow offensive start in the first half but turned it on in the second half, scoring 34 points to overwhelm Wyandotte Roosevelt 55-22 Friday in a Downriver League Showdown at Wayne State's Tom Adams Field in the 2022 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic.

It was the opener for both teams as the Jaguars (1-0) turned a 21-14 halftime lead into a blowout against the Bears (0-1).

"Our quarterbacks are young and inexperienced,'' said Allen Park coach Tom Danosky. "I saw some things I liked, and we have some things to work on. They'll get better. In the second half we got back to our basics. Maybe we threw too much at them. We have a lot of kids playing varsity football for the first time.''

Allen Park deferred to coin toss and the move paid off as junior defensive back/quarterback Braylon Orsette intercepted a Jason Pente pass and returned it 41-yards for the game's first score as the Jaguars took a 7-0 lead with nine minutes, 55 seconds left in the first quarter.

Aided by a nine-yard punt and a horse collar tackle on a 23-yard run by Alvarez, the Jaguars made it 13-0 on a 10-yard run by Steven Doyle.

Roosevelt used a 15-yard personal foul penalty to set up at the Allen Park 25 and Max Biundo plowed through the Jaguars defense for a 17-yard TD run with 5:03 left in the half to trim the deficit to 13-7.

"He's our offense,'' said Bears quarterback Tyler Kurdi. "That kid is tough. He's hard to bring down. In the second half I didn't get us going. That's my fault.''

Biundo finished with 145 yards on 26 carries.

Josh Rempert took the ensuing kickoff and raced 90-yards through the Wyandotte defenders to put Allen Park ahead 21-7 after Owen Alvarez' two-point conversion run.

"I have to give my blockers credit,'' said Rempert. "I saw the crease and went for it. We got off to a slow start, but we just kept playing. We wanted this one. We picked it up in the second half.''

Said Danosky: "I told them this week that we'd get one. The return was huge. It gave us some momentum.''

Biundo scored his second touchdown on a 13-yard run to make it 21-14 with 3:11 left in the half.

Biundo finished the first half with 114 yards on 16 carries while the Jaguars offense struggled, scoring with an interception for a score and a kickoff return.

Camden Johnson's 57-yard kickoff return set Allen Park up ad the Wyandotte 22 to start the third quarter.

Doyle hit Alvarez with a 16-yard TD pass with 9:11 left in the third to give the winners a 28-14 lead.

Wyandotte fumbled inside the 30 with Craig Cyrbok recovering at the Bears' 26.

Rempert turned the miscue into a 23-yard TD run with 6:52 left in the third to give the Jaguars a 35-14 lead.

Alvarez tacked on another score, set up by a 46-yard pass to Seydou Diallo, on a four-yard run to blow the game open, 41-14.

Orsette added to his defensive TD with a 47-yard TD run with 35 seconds left in the third quarter to give Allen Park a 48-14 lead.
