RELEASE: Detroit Sports Commission Responds to Big Ten Conference Selecting Host Site for Future Conference Football Championship Game

DETROIT (April 20, 2022) — In response to the Big Ten Conference selecting a host site for future conference football championship game, the Detroit Sports Commission has released the following statement.

"The Detroit Sports Commission today learned that the Big Ten Conference has opted to pursue another city as the future site of its conference football championship game. While we are deeply disappointed in the decision made by the Big Ten today, we are proud of our bid efforts supported by the Detroit Sports Organizing Corp and our local partners. We will continue our collaboration with the Big Ten to bring a football championship game, in addition to the men's and women's basketball tournaments, to the Detroit community.

Our bid effort with the Big Ten showcased the significant assets of Detroit as a premier future host site, including being one of the nation's most diverse and international cities, proximity to the Big Ten fan base, outstanding sporting venues located in a walkable footprint, inventory of fan-friendly housing and hospitality offerings, past highly successful events held in Detroit and the dynamic on-going revitalization of the downtown Detroit area.

We will continue our efforts to attract future sporting events, using the assets of the local community and the ongoing positive momentum, including the exciting news of Detroit being selected to host the 2024 NFL Draft and the recent sold-out NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Little Caesars Arena."
