DETROIT (March 22, 2022) — In response to the United States Golf Association (USGA) selecting Oakland Hills' South Course as the host site for the 2034 and 2051 U.S. Open Championships, as well as four USGA amateur championships in addition to the two U.S. Women's Opens in 2031 and 2042 announced in January, the Detroit Sports Commission has released the following statement from Executive Director Dave Beachnau.
"With spring officially here, now could not be a better time to announce that two U.S. Open Championships and four additional USGA amateur championships are coming to Michigan. The region's ability to attract yet another major sporting event—coming off the heels of hosting 106,000-plus fans at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships last week and the upcoming Rocket Mortgage Classic in July—is a testament to the sport, business and community partners who work collaboratively to make the region a world-class sports destination. Sports are the beating heart of metro Detroit, and we can't wait to welcome golf fans to the region and show them what Detroit and our surrounding communities have to offer."
