Whether it was running or throwing, Warren De LaSalle junior quarterback Brady Drogosh had the Pilot offense humming Friday night at the Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic.

Chicago St. Patrick was the victim of Drogosh's big game as he led the Pilots' 38-13 victory.

"We're still a work in progress,'' said Coach Dan Rohn, in his second year. "We're just a little over a year together. We're starting to understand each other and growing."

Drogosh produced two TD passes and a touchdown run for De LaSalle (1-0). He accounted for 178 yards in the air and 125 on the ground.

"We've gotten used to the things coach wants and we've improved on the old things,'' said Drogosh. "It has gotten better through the offseason. Our offense will probably look like that. We'll probably throw the ball more often. Last year we had J.C. Ford and Brett Stanley to carry the load. During the offseason I lifted and gained about 15 to 20 pounds and grew an inch. I kept working with quarterback coaches and speed coaches and I throw the ball better.''

Drogosh took the first play from scrimmage 60-yards for a score, but it was nullified by a block in the back penalty.

Undaunted, the junior led the team down the field and Alton McCullum raced in from 25 yard out to give the Pilots a 7-0 lead with seven minutes, 27 seconds to play in the first quarter.

The Pilots put together another drive and on fourth down Drogosh hit Triston Nichols with a two-yard score to make it 14-0 with 65 seconds left.

"Brady and I have great chemistry,'' said Nichols. "I think it'll get better each game. We started throwing with each other freshman year and we've bonded on and off the field. I'm glad coach is here. He really came in and fixed the program.

Overcoming penalties and a Chauncey Shaw sack the Shamrocks managed to get on the board with 2:22 left when quarterback Jermaine Young hit Brando Capo in the corner of the end zone to cut Saint Patrick's deficit in half, 14-7.

Starting from its own 7 to start the second half, De LaSalle drove the ball down the throat of the Shamrock defense until they stalled at the 21.

Brady Lowe kicked a 31-yard field goal with 5:04 left in the third quarter, giving the Pilots a 17-7 lead thanks to the 6:56 drive.

On De LaSalle's next drive sophomore Rhett Roeser burst through the middle of the Shamrock defense for 55-yards with 3:21 left in the third quarter to give the winners a 24-7 lead.

After the scoreboard lights went out Drogosh put the lights out of the Shamrocks, scoring on a 20-yard TD run to make it 31-7 with 11:22 left.
