Chicago (Ill.) Wendell Phillips put up 20 points on Detroit Cass Tech in the first half of the finale of the 2019 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic, and never looked back. The Wildcats defeated Cass Tech, 26-9, in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.

Senior running back Anthony Anderson accounted for all three of the Wildcats' first-half scores.

He found the end zone for the first time, via a 7-yard scamper, at the 10:11 mark in the first quarter.

The Wildcats kept Cass Tech off the scoreboard until junior Cass Tech linebacker Kobe King recorded a safety with about four minutes remaining in the third quarter.

On the subsequent drive, the Technicians proceeded to score their lone touchdown of the game. It came as a result of a six-play drive that ended in a 7-yard TD pass from senior quarterback Sebastian Brown to junior wideout Kalen King with 1:16 to play in the quarter.

The biggest play of the drive came courtesy of Kobe King. On the second play of the possession, he recorded a carry that went for 19 yards.

Kobe and Kalen King, arguably the most important players for Cass Tech this season, are twin brothers. They will each play a pivotal role in how far the Technicians go this season.

"They (Kobe and Kalen) mean a heck of a lot to our team, with our limited depth," Cass Tech head man Thomas Wilcher said. "We need all the bodies we can get. So, they both will definitely be very important players for us as the season goes on."

With the touchdown, Cass Tech showed that it wasn't going down without a fight.

Wendell Phillips responded right back, though.

On a fourth-and-2 with 10:20 remaining in the game, senior running back Tyler Clark scored on a 21-yard run that capped off a seven-play drive for the Wildcats. Clark accounted for 64 of the Wildcats' 68 yards on the drive.

The Wildcats' Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player, though, proved to be Anderson after his great first-half performance.

"It took a lot of hard work and dedication for this performance to happen today," Anderson said. "I had to bust my butt, day in and day out, just to be ready for this game."

Meanwhile, Kalen King was awarded with the Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player for Cass Tech.

The loss drops Cass Tech to 7-2 all-time in the Prep Kickoff Classic.
