It was the Cameron Martinez show in the nightcap on day two of the 2019 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic.

The Muskegon quarterback and Ohio State commit led the Big Reds to a 41-7 victory over the Warren De La Salle Pilots in a rematch from Week 1 a season ago. The Big Reds also beat the Pilots last year, 36-21.

De La Salle stubbed itself in the toe right out of the gate. It fumbled on the second play of the game.

Senior defensive end Billie Roberts, who holds offers from Power 5 schools such as Michigan State and Tennessee, recovered the fumble for the Big Reds.

It set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Martinez with 8:15 to play in the first quarter.

It remained 7-0 until De La Salle capitalized off a Muskegon fumbled punt in the second quarter. On the subsequent drive for the Pilots, junior running back Brett Stanley proceeded to punch it in from 16 yards out with 8:44 remaining in the quarter.

The Big Reds followed up the Stanley score with 34 unanswered points, spearheaded by Martinez. He accounted for all three of the Big Reds' first-half scores.

His longest score of the half came with 47.3 seconds left when he ran it in from 62 yards out. It gave the Big Reds a 21-7 lead going into halftime.
He finished the half with 109 yards on 13 carries, while accounting for 24 more yards through the air.

While De La Salle did manage to keep him out of the end zone in the second half, he still did some serious damage on the ground.

He ran for 75 more yards, finishing with 184 yards on the ground to go along with his three scores from the first half. He also went 6-of-11 for 57 yards with an interception through the air.

His dynamite performance on the ground against the two-time defending Division 2 state champion Pilots earned him the Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player award for Muskegon.

"We had to stay locked in, in order to beat De La Salle tonight," Martinez said. "It was looking like it was going to be a long game when the score was 14-7. So, we had to stay focused and not take any plays off in order to capture this victory."

After the score became 35-7 with 9:15 remaining in the fourth quarter, Martinez was replaced under center by junior Amari Crowley.

Martinez didn't come out of the game completely, though. He, instead, proceeded to take multiple snaps at wideout, and caught a pass before his night was over.

He projects to be a slot receiver at the next level for the Buckeyes.

The Big Reds' three scores in the second half -- all of the rushing variety -- came from three different players: senior Japrie Henderson, senior Tarran Walker and senior Tommy Watts.

The Big Reds, as a team, finished with 268 yards on the ground.

With the victory, Muskegon improved its all-time record against De La Salle to 4-0, as well as its Prep Kickoff Classic record to 3-0.

As for De La Salle, its PKC record dropped to 0-4.

Stanley, who accounted for 44 yards on five carries and the Pilots' lone score of the night, was DLS's Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player.
