Detroit Cass Tech earned its fifth straight win in the Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic with a 45-27 victory over Oak Park on Sunday afternoon.
Senior wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones was named the Legacy Football Most Outstanding Player after hauling in three catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Touchdowns were exchanged throughout the opening half and the Technicians did not take the lead until late in the second quarter when Rodney Hall found Jaren Mangham for an 11-yard TD pass to make the score 28-21.
Early in the third, Cashual Goldsmith ran for a 7-yard touchdown for the Knights, but the extra point was no good and with 2:29 left in the third, Cass Tech led 31-27.
Cass Tech answered back when Jackson connected with Peoples-Jones on a 58-yard touchdown to move the score to 38-27.
Cass Tech quarterback Rodney Hall ended the day going 9-of-15 for 77 yards and a TD, and he also had 10 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Jackson also saw time at quarterback, going 3-for-3 for 101 yards, with both touchdowns to Peoples-Jones.
Oak Park's Kevin Bradley caught a 64-yard touchdown pass to earn the Legacy Football MOP award.
Cass Tech gained 328 total yards, while Oak Park garnered 313.
